Sovy vstupovali do štvrtkovej odvety na Hillsborough s prehrou 0:4 z prvého duelu, ale v odvete štyrikrát udreli - vrátane dramatického vyrovnávajúceho gólu Liama Palmera v ôsmej minúte nadstaveného času - a dotiahli duel až do penaltového rozstrelu, v ktorom napokon uspeli. Žiaden klub v histórii play-off ešte nikdy nedokázal postúpiť ďalej, ak si z prvého zápasu priviezol väčší ako dvojgólový deficit.
